If you’re a dog owner looking for new ways to enjoy your UTV, why not bring your pet along? With a little preparation, you enjoy a safe yet fun off-road ride with your dog. If you’d like to learn more about how to make this dream a reality, this guide from the experts at Alberta Cycle has the answers.

How to Transport a Dog in Your UTV

If you let your dog roam freely around the inside of your UTV while riding, they might get thrown around or try to crawl on your lap. They might even fall out if the ride gets too bumpy! That’s why we recommend that you find an appropriately sized dog crate and strap it down tightly. Keep your pet inside the crate for the duration of the ride. If you’re riding in hot weather, make sure the crate has enough ventilation. For colder rides, add a kennel cover.

It’s also important to ease your dog into UTV riding. Start by introducing your dog to the crate in a calm, happy way. Use treats or toys to make your dog associate the crate with fun. Start with a few short and easy UTV rides to build up to your first full ride.

How to Pack Your UTV

In addition to the usual supplies you take on every UTV trip, you’ll also need to bring a few things along for your dog. This includes things like food, water, a pet first aid kit, and a collapsible bowl. Non-essentials like an LED collar for night rides, booties to protect your dog’s paws from rough terrain, and a brush to remove burrs are also nice to have.
